Never send us your API keys. We will never ask for them.
Common questions
How do I add an API key?
Open Settings › Backends and tap a quick-connect tile: Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini or Grok. Give it a display name, paste the API key from that provider's developer console, and save. Use Test connection to check it works.
Keys are stored in Apple's Keychain and sync to your other devices through iCloud Keychain. For that to work, turn on iCloud Keychain (Passwords & Keychain) for the same Apple Account on both devices. Syncing can take a minute.
Usage is billed to you by the provider. If a provider says your key is invalid or out of credit, check your account on the provider's website.
The mic isn't working, or I see "Microphone and speech permissions are required"
VersAIt needs two permissions, Microphone and Speech Recognition.
- iPhone: go to Settings › Apps › VersAIt and turn on Microphone and Speech Recognition.
- Mac: go to System Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone, and › Speech Recognition, and turn on VersAIt.
Then go back to VersAIt and tap Listen. If the mic stops after a phone call or when you switch headphones, tap the orb once to start listening again.
How does push-to-talk work?
With Settings › Listening behavior › Push to talk on, the mic stays off until you press and hold Hold to talk. Speak while holding, and let go to send. Nothing is sent before you release, however long you pause. If you release without saying anything, the mic just closes.
Push-to-talk is on by default on the Mac and off on iPhone. With it off, VersAIt listens hands-free and sends when you pause for a few seconds or say your send phrase ("send it" by default). You can change both in Settings.
What is the Mac hotkey?
Press ⌃ Control ⌥ Option Space from any app.
- Hold it to talk, and let go to send.
- Tap it to switch hands-free listening on or off. A tap while you're talking sends what you've said so far, and a tap while a reply is being read stops it and starts listening.
When the VersAIt window is focused and you're not typing in a text field, plain Space does the same. Other shortcuts: ⌘↩ sends now, ⌘. stops listening, ⌘→ skips the current reply, and ⌘, opens Settings. The hotkey doesn't need Accessibility permission. VersAIt keeps running in the menu bar after you close the window, so the hotkey still works then. Choose Quit from the menu bar icon to stop it.
How do I skip or stop a reply?
Double-tap the screen, press ⌘→ on the Mac, or say "VersAIt skip". You can also say "pause", "faster" or "slower" while a reply is being read.
How do I talk to just one AI in a group?
Start with its name, for example "Claude, what do you think?" or "Hey Grok, …". Only that agent answers. Without a name, everyone in the group answers.
Where is my chat log, and how do I delete it?
Your chat log is stored only on your device. Open it from Settings › Chat log, where you can export it or clear it. See the privacy policy for details.
